Addressing Some Social Media Issues (Part 2)

No matter how much money or effort you put into starting a social media marketing campaign, if there is no follow through, then it will not achieve its optimum potential.

That is just one of the nuggets of social media wisdom we shared with you in the first part of our article addressing overlooked social media issues. As promised, here is the second installment of common challenges encountered by social media marketers.

1. Lack of confidence. Social media is all about projecting a personality that people will find engaging. In one of our social media video blog posts, we said that the most knowledgeable person isn’t always the right man or woman to represent your business. This type of Internet marketing requires confidence and passion as well as leadership and conviction to encourage participation and engagement.

2. Having a digitally unsavvy team. Getting into social media means being social, not doing social. It means that the entrepreneurs themselves should be genuinely interested and passionate about social media. Fortunately, this can be developed through training, participation and of course, listening and engagement.

3. Letting data get in the way of creativity. Of course, data should be a key component in making business decisions but it should not get in the way of executing a creative idea, especially when it comes to social marketing. If your experience tells you that something will work better, don’t get paralyzed by the hard facts. Remember, experience is the best teacher.

4. No personality. Personality is something that cannot be pulled out of thin air. To make sure that your campaign has a human dimension to it, use real team members from your company to collaborate social media efforts instead of assigning the responsibility to one person. Building relationships is the key to social media success. If there are conflicts, do not send a “legal person” right away. Stay focused on “serving” your market and if your intentions are truly benevolent, they will love you back.
