Cybertegic SEO Lesson vol. 1 - Finding Your Niche

Finding your niche (“neesh”) or niche market, is the first and most important step you should consider taking before you build your own online business.

Make a list of all the things that interests you. Include those activities you’ve been doing for the past ten years or so. Whether it’s sports, cooking, gardening, cars, or collecting vinyl records.

Trim the list down to five of your best choices. Then select just one from that five. Keyword research can help you do that.

Start your keyword research. Find out how many searches are already being done on the web with those keywords. You can try using Wordtracker and/or Keyword Discovery for this. You won’t want to waste your time on a “niche” that has no market at all.

The idea of a right niche for you, is to find a “small group of people who are searching online for the solution to a very SPECIFIC problem”.

That’s why you also should do your search typing your keywords into the search engines (i.e. Google, Yahoo!, MSN) to check for the number of competition you’re gonna get. Your goal would be to find the right keyword for your niche without bumping around against a huge number of competing sites.

Overall, it’s not easy to find the right niche but it’s out there and you’ll find it if you do your brainstorming and keyword research properly.

There will always be something that will be unique about you that will set you apart from the others – something you could turn into a lucrative internet business. You just have to find out what that is.
