Cybertegic SEO Lesson vol. 2 - Domain Name and Registration

To learn how you can find the right niche market before you start having your own domain (i.e. www.yoursite.com), I suggest that you read the first part of this installment which you’ll find here.

Once you’ve found your niche, it is time to give it a name.

The best name that you can give your website, and consequently – your online business, is to use a word or two taken from your main targeted keyword/s.

Conversely, a name which is relevant but not exactly matching any of your keywords is second best.

This SEO concept is really very simple. After all, you have already done extensive brainstorming and keyword research. There should be no more questions on your mind once you’ve arrived at this point.

Take a look at the following scenario. Let’s pretend your research shows a small group of people worldwide is searching for mud paintings on the internet but not getting too many results from the search listings. So, you’ve found your niche which would be “Mud Paintings”. Your targeted keyword must be “mud paintings”. And, therefore, you should name your website “Mud Paintings”.

If you name it “Gallery of Mud” instead, do you think you’re gonna hit the bull’s eye? When someone searches for “mud paintings” do you think Google will say: “Oh, let’s put this ‘Gallery of Mud’ web site in number one position of the results because ‘gallery’ can mean paintings and our searcher will understand that ‘mud’ is the medium they use for their products.”?

Is it not that a gallery can hold many other works of art other than paintings? Do you see now, how it would be quite a stretch for a search engine? I guarantee you, search engines will NEVER stretch out that far to pull you up the rankings. It is up to you to come close to your target – NUMBER ONE.

You could however go for “Gallery of Mud Paintings” or “Mud Paintings Gallery”. Do you see the difference? Either way you can have a domain name of “www.mudpaintings.com”. See how easy it is?

Now, for the fun part – registering your domain name.

First you have to check whether your chosen domain name isn’t being used by anybody yet. Websites for registering domain names usually provide a special box where you could type your domain name and it will tell you if it’s available or not. That part of the process is free.

To see exactly how, you can copy & paste this URL: https://www.godaddy.com into a new window right about now.

Type “mudpaintings” into the box where it says Start Domain Search then click the GO! button. When the results come up, you’ll see ‘MUDPAINTINGS.COM is available!’ at the top of the page. And, underneath, it indicates that you can have “mudpaintings” with a .com, .net, .me, .info, .org, or .us. Suggested variations of our sample domain name are going to be displayed further down below. That is how you are gonna get other options in case the “.com” is not available for any of your future domain name ideas.

Remember, find your niche first, and from that, will come your domain name idea. Keep close to your target by not using keywords for the sake of being cool. Don’t miss out on the biggest opportunity only found on the web that search engines can give you with it’s ever increasing volume of FREE traffic. Stay focused on your business if that’s what you really want!
