Facebook, the world’s number one social networking and now social media marketing site, has added another feature that will make it easier for users to share preferences. The California-based company has created and launched the Send button–a “social plug-in, a single line of code a retailer can add to its e-commerce site to link to Facebook.” The Send button is the Facebook equivalent of the “send to a friend” option used by other websites. According to Facebook, this new feature makes it easier for users to send links to friends by eliminating the need to leave a site and go through multiple steps.
This new feature may seem small and irrelevant to average Facebook users but this new move by Facebook definitely spells a big step in the constantly evolving social marketing game. A Facebook spokesperson was quoted in the article saying that “this type of context and control can result in more targeted communication among friends from the web site, and the sharing of items that people don’t want to broadcast to all of their friends, and may not have shared otherwise.”
In addition, the world’s leading social network also said that this new button was designed to be alongside the Like button. The same Facebook spokesperson added, “By including both on a web site, people will have the ability to broadcast the things they Like and also send it to specific people.”
