Facebook Tips (Part 2): Five Creative Ways To Grow Your Fan Base

In our previous blog post, we shared with you five tips to help you grow your business’s Facebook fan page. Now, we are adding up five more simple yet creative ways to broaden your social media audience via the world’s largest social networking site.

Like we always say, starting a social media campaign does not begin and end with creating a Facebook page. For it to be effective and successful, there is a need for consistent communication and creative ways to engage your audience.

Here are five tips to help you become a Facebook success courtesy of the Social Media Examiner.

1. Embed widgets on your site. Choose from several Facebook Social Plugins and make sure to place them on your website and blog. One example is the Fan Box widget which is great for displaying current fan page streams and showing some of your fans. Clicking on the Like box will instantly make browsers a Facebook fan.

2. Invite your e-mail and e-zine subscribers. Do not forget to include a description of your fan page and, if possible, an incentive to join. Instead of just the usual “Add us on Facebook” statements, make sure to include a Facebook logo or badge in your HTML newsletters to make your call to action more concrete.

3. Let fans tag your photos. If you have a live event, make sure to take plenty of photos (flattering ones, hopefully) of your audience or your attendees. Upload them on your fan page and encourage your fans to tag themselves. In this way, your level of exposure is pushed out to their walls and into their own friends’ walls.

4. Autograph other fan pages. Show some Facebook love to other fan pages (make sure they are not competitors or even potential competitors) and when posting on their walls, use the @ sign to tag it back to your own page. Make your posts as witty and as engaging as you (naturally) can so users will want to click on your tag. Use this tip with caution. Overdoing the self-tagging technique can be a major turn-off.

5. Create and upload a compelling welcome video. Come up with a creative and attractive landing tab with a video that says what your page is about, who it is for, and why they should become members. Remember, first impressions last so don’t hesitate to pull out all the creative stops for this one.
