Google gives an update about the use and inclusion of emojis in web page titles and meta descriptions. According to Google, doing so will not hurt or help your SEO strategy.

The statement was given by Google’s John Mueller during a Google Search Central SEO hangout recorded on January 28.

John Mueller discussed one of the submitted questions asking Google’s position on emojis, which involves emojis in the landing page’s titles and descriptions.

Using emojis can be used for title tags and meta descriptions because they are not against any of Google’s guidelines. However, it seems that using emojis in optimizing your pages doesn’t make too much of a difference.

Adding Emojis on Page Titles and Descriptions

You can use emojis anywhere on your website, whether in page titles, meta descriptions, or your main content. But there is no guarantee that those emojis will show in Google’s search results.

Google can rewrite the majority of your page title as it is. However, even if it chooses to display the title you’ve written, it may not show the emojis included.

According to John Mueller, Google won’t display any disruptive emojis that make the search snippet look misleading.

Instead of showing your emojis, Google will change it to the equivalent word.

Does Using Emojis Hurt or Help SEO?

Google confirmed that using emojis won’t cause any problems with your website’s SEO. However, it won’t help either.

Google’s online search algorithm won’t give more weight or consideration to titles and descriptions with emojis. While they may be more colorful than plain text and can stand out, they exactly won’t boost your SEO ranking.

Most importantly, Google is unlikely to show it on its search results. So it is better to instead write off your titles and descriptions in plain text.
