Google Says Bold Text Can Help Your SEO

Google Webmaster Trends Analyst John Mueller recently confirmed that bolding important text in your content’s paragraph can help your website’s SEO and help Google understand the content better.

While making text bold in your content can help your SEO strategy, its extent is relative to your entire content.

Using Bold Text

According to Mueller, the bold text adds extra value to your page. Google’s algorithm can crawl for either bolded or italicized text to understand what’s important on a web page’s content.

Although Google can figure out what’s important in the content, bold texts make the message clearer for readers.

Mueller stated that although Google’s algorithm can understand what the content on a page is about by simplifying crawling it. It is also programmed to figure out what is being emphasized in the content, including headings and bolded or italicized texts. So to some extent, formatting your text as such adds value to your content. It also helps Google better understand what your web page is all about.

How to Use Bold Text

As stated earlier, the value of using bold texts in your web page is relative to the rest of its content.

A few bold texts throughout an article can help send stronger signals to Google, as long as those words are relevant to the content. Never think that emphasizing all the text on your web page will have no value.

Take only a handful of sentences or words within your entire content that you want to emphasize. These are the words that you should bold or italicize.

Remember to use semantic HTML to give when emphasizing important words. Use the proper markup for your page’s content such as <b> and <strong> tags. These help Google understand the content on your web page a little bit better.
