  • Step 1 – Go to Google Ads and sign in to your account.
  • Step 2 – Go to the Menu Page at the left of your screen and click on Ads & extensions.
  • Step 3 – Click the Plus button and choose Image Extension. Select a campaign or ad group from the drop-down menu where you want to add the image extensions.
  • Step 4 – Click the Plug button found next to “Images.” Select the image source from the top of the dialog box. Choose to upload an image from your file or choose from Google Ads’ library of stock photos. You can use these stock photos for free.
  • Step 5 You can choose to select from the two options:
    • Create New – Choose this to add image assets, select “Scan website,” “Upload,” or “Recently used.”
    • Use Existing – Choose from the existing image extensions from your campaign or ad group.
  • Step 6 – You can follow the prompts on how to upload the images.
  • Step 7 – For image extension, Google Ads prefers a ratio of 1:1 or 1.9:1. If you don’t have any images that fit those ratios, you will need to crop them to upload them as an image extension. Click the image you like to trim, make the changes you want, and then click Continue. You can repeat this step for each image.
  • Step 8 – Google Ads can select up to 20 images for your image extensions, then click Save.

What are the Requirements of Image Extensions

What are the Specifications of Image Extensions

Aspect ratio:

  • A square (1×1) image is required.
  • A landscape image (1.91 x 1) is optional but recommended.

Image resolution:

  • For square (1×1) images, they should have minimum pixels of 300 x 300 px and recommended 1200 x 1200 px pixels.
  • For landscape (1.91×1) images, they should have minimum pixels of 600 x 314 px and recommended 1200 x 628 px pixels.

File formats:

Google Ads accept the following file formats for uploading image extensions:

  • PNG
  • JPG
  • Static GIF

Maximum file size:

Google Ads accepts images with a file size up to 5120 KB.

Make sure that the important content of your image is in the center and takes up 80% of the total picture. How to Delete Image Extension on Google Ads

To delete or remove an image extension on your Google Ads campaign or ad group, follow these steps:

  • Step 1 – Go to your Google Ads account. And from the page menu on the left, choose Ads & extensions.
  • Step 2 – Choose the image extension you want to delete or remove.
  • Step 3 – Check the box located to the left of the extension you want to delete.
  • Step 4 – Click the Edit from the drop-down menu located above the table. Choose Remove.
  • Step 5 – Click Remove again, so the image extension will be deleted or removed.
