Local Businesses Spotlight: Geo-Specific SEO Tips to Improve Local Rankings (PART II)

Previously, we discussed how being active both in local online and offline communities, Google Places, and other search engines can help boost geo-specific SEO campaigns. This week, we conclude our article on tips how to maximize geo-specific search engine optimization that will lead to relevant traffic and will increase conversion in the long run.

1. Positive reviews can work wonders. Google Places allow customers to post reviews on a website’s products and services, making it hard to hide unhappy consumers; this can ultimately affect the amount of traffic on your listing. Be attentive to your customers’ questions and concerns, and if they are happy with how you do business with them, they will surely leave a review.

2. Multiple domains have its advantages and disadvantages. Knowing whether you should use multiple domains, subdomains, or subfolders is a very important decision because each option offers different SEO benefits. For local businesses however, multiple domains is more beneficial especially if you want to rank high locally.

3. While Google is the biggest search engine to date, searching for businesses and services on the search engine isn’t always the first thing consumers do. There are existing business-listings websites that specialize on navigating through small and big businesses, offering more useful and user-friendly local results. It is thereby important to have an “SEO presence” that go beyond traditional search engines.

4. When it comes to geo-specific SEO campaigns, local businesses should give importance to contact details, specifically the physical address. To rank for targeted keywords for a specific service in a specific area, naturally mention where your business is located because this helps Google and other search engines determine your relevance and association with an area or region.

5. Your business may be geared towards local customers but it doesn’t mean you should alienate nationwide customers while doing so. For businesses that provide services locally and nationally, it is important to make nationwide customers feel appreciated so include nationwide marketing in your SEO campaigns too. By doing this, you put focus in your local business, but also making services available on a national scale.
