New YouTube Feature: Filter & Explore

YouTube, Google‘s video sharing website with approximately 65,000 hours of video uploaded every day, has just revamped its search options with a brand new search feature called Filter and Explore.

This new search opens up a great number of possibilities. Now, when you search on YouTube, rather than seeing the typical options in the search box, a single Filter and Explore option will be displayed. (Note: sometimes only the Filter will display if YouTube didn’t have enough results or data to provide the extra Explore links option.) This option then allows users to choose different filters that will narrow down the results making each search more precise.

For example, if one was to search for “Bon Jovi,” now they they can search more specifically through searching for the most viewed movies, ones uploaded in a given time period, or ones only in High Definition.

Another interesting feature is that the Explore option that appears to the right of the screen lets users search for, in this case, similar bands. A user can click on their name to search for that particular artist or click the “+” symbol to add them to the current search. This can also be accomplished manually through entering commas between the different topics.

These sorting options are now located to the right side of the screen. This new YouTube feature is only available on the U.S. English interface, but Google is working to expand it.

Go to YouTube and try the new search. Is this new search feature helpful?
