Now You Can Transform Your Facebook Profile Into A Facebook Page

It seems Facebook is coming out with a new feature or update every week and this week is no exception. Facebook has once again released a new tool that enables users to do even more. This time Facebook has released a feature that allows users to convert their own profile page into a Facebook Page. Though many become confused with this specific terminology and wonder what the big deal is, there is a key difference between the two. A Facebook Page allows users to simply “Like” the Page and become fans while a Profile Page requires users to “Friend” the profile. This is a much more appealing feature for businesses and public figures.

Facebook explains the process when the switch is made:

“Be aware that when you convert your profile to a Page, your profile pictures will be transferred, and all of your friends will be automatically added as people who like your Page. No other content will be carried over to your new Page, so be sure to save any important content before beginning your migration.”

Take great caution before transforming your profile page into a Facebook page. There have already been some real horror stories. The site warns about losing content but it doesn’t fully convey what converting your page actually entails. Here are some extra things to consider:

-Your profile photo is what transfers, other profile photos don’t and neither does other personal profile information
-The following dissappear – wall posts, comments, likes, and uploaded video and photos
-Applications linked to your account lose their connection
-Your username is not 100% assured that it will transfer over
-This business style account is specifically designed to manage and create pages, not to engage with friends personally like a regular profile.

I would strongly recommend this feature only to those who originally developed a profile page specifically for business related purposes. I can not say this enough. Don’t transform your page until you are absolutely sure that’s what you want to do.

Once the switch is made, it is permanent. There is no going back, at least at this time. This tool will enable businesses and public figures to transfer their profiles into a Facebook Page that doesn’t have the frustrating 5,000 friend limit that can hinder a business’ growth.

Personally, I find this feature to be extremely useful. If you’ve wanted to start your own business, but don’t know how, Facebook can be a great way to start. With the ability to transfer your profile into a more business friendly page and the ability to create a Facebook Store all for free on a social media platform that serves over 500 million users, it can be an extremely powerful way to get your business started or help it grow. What the Social Media Giants next move?
