Productive Troubleshooting Tips for Search Engine Optimization Problems

SEOmoz CEO and co-founder Rand Fishkin graciously welcomed SEO questions and realized that a major dilemma common among internet marketers is that these search engine practitioners focus only on the most common internet marketing strategies, while not venturing enough in creative means of internet advertising. He then suggested creative means of solving difficult search engine optimization challenges that are a notch higher than commonly-practiced techniques.

1. Expensive Brand/Name Building – This practice involves spending a lot of money to control results for a particular name or brand. While the standard practice is to link and create positive or neutral content to cancel out the negative ones, Fishkin suggests creating diversity by simultaneously introducing many brands or people with the same names. By bringing attention to similarly-named products or people, search engines can then apply diversity algorithms to these results. This can be done by creating fictional profiles or persuading influential personalities to name products or characters a certain way.

2. Indexing Large E-commerce sites – While the common solution to getting large e-commerce indexed is by optimizing XML sitemaps and strategic internal navigation, Fishkin suggests limiting product catalog to focus on full indexation and creating feeds, blogs, and accounts for specific products to send indexing signals to search engines. Creative copy content can also help pages get indexed so get those brains working and juices flowing to produce unique content for a few sample pages on your website.

3. Competing with Rival Companies – Outearn competitors with a strong lead for keyphrases by working around the system. This can be achieved by trying out alternative keywords, posting video content, publishing news, blogs, and tweets, utilizing social media platforms, and own Google’s Suggest/Instant feature.

4. Optimized Anchor Texts – Fishkin says that white hat search engine optimization practices can also build ideal anchor texts. Search engine practitioners just need to create profile and biographical paragraphs, press releases, guest writing/blogging for publications, widgets and other embeddable content, appropriate titling of products, pages, and posts, and having specific anchor texts via citation.

As the world of internet marketing and advertising becomes more competitive, organic marketers have to continuously be ahead of the game. Think outside the box and create solutions that are true to the practice of white hat search engine optimization.
