SEO Press Release Writing for Small Businesses (Part I)

Writing press releases for purposes of SEO is not exclusive to big brands and companies. While paid press release engines are the best outlets to distribute SEO press releases, small businesses can also opt for free press release engines that also offer wide distribution packages, albeit with limited options. For example, PRWeb, which was established in 1997, is a paid PR engine that aims to help small businesses get their news distributed all over the web.

Thanks to PRWeb, small businesses can now directly communicate and relay information to their consumers via press releases. To be successful in writing press releases that will increase online visibility and brand awareness, it is also important that SEO is applied so search engines such as Google and Yahoo! can index these link building articles.

Meg Walker, PRWeb’s Director of Online Marketing, shared some ideas on how to produced search engine optimized-press releases that will help small businesses gain a competitive edge over their peers.

1. Audience demand – To meet audience demand, Walker suggests three steps that should be accomplished:

a. Knowing the audience – The audience should motivate the tone, angle, and interest of the press release.

b. Being relevant – Just like writing any kind of news, the relevance and timeliness of the topic of any press release is important not only to generate enough interest but for your audience to pass and share the information along to others.

c. Satisfying customer demand – Do research, create content for that hot topic, continue to stay updated so your customers will find you dependable when it comes to the latest trends in whatever industry you belong to.

2. Focus – Keep in mind that when writing SEO press releases, the topic should focus on one event/promotion/news per press release. This not only means focusing on a single topic but it also creates centralized keywords which is relevant to the topic at hand. A press release item with so many topics will distract the audience, which will result to the readers not understanding the article in the end.

Writing press releases for SEO purposes is easy if you know who to write for and what to write about. The next installment of this article will finish this two-part series on how small businesses can create more effective press releases for SEO purposes.
