Social Commerce On Facebook About To Get More Crowded

In an Internet Retailer report by Zak Stambor, it is revealed that leading e-commerce platform provider, Magento, has struck a deal with social commerce services provider Zibaba to allow tens of thousands of e-commerce merchants to replicate their sites on leading social networking site, Facebook. This move will significantly change the social commerce scene as merchants will be able to sell easier via the Palo Alto, California-based social media giant.

According to the report, this move was a result of a collective sentiment by Magento’s 100,000 brands and merchants who wanted a “simple way to launch storefronts on Facebook.” Ronen Shlomo, who is CEO of Zibaba, explains that with this joint development in the fields of social media and e-commerce, online store owners can now launch a Facebook store directly from their own Facebook fan page. The company chief also pointed out that this development is the byproduct of an age wherein people are in constant search of technical solutions that will provide the fastest and easiest way to achieve goals.

Additionally, the Zibaba platform enables e-commerce merchants to launch group offers a la Groupon. For example, a retailer can post that it will sell a $25 shirt for only $10 if 50 people agree to purchase it. Zibaba’s website says that Facebook is the ideal social media platform for this kind of online deal.

The article further notes that this is the second deal of its kind. Earlier this year, another e-commerce technology provider, Shopify, announced a similar development.
