There are many ways to answer this question but perhaps the best way to do so is to look at how social media marketing has helped business owners. Everybody knows that social media tools like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube help entrepreneurs reach out to customers and establish valuable relationships that eventually help boost business performance. For small business owners, social media marketing helps entrepreneurs be seen and heard in a crowded marketplace.

1. AJ Bombers. This burger joint in Milwaukee, Wisconsin invested time to “build a personality” in popular social media tools which include Facebook and Foursquare. Despite a tough economy, this small business utilized social media to drive customers to the actual location.

2. Baby Sitters Directory. As the company name implies, Baby Sitters Directory is an Australian company that helps parents find help for taking care of their children. This kind of business requires a huge amount of faith and trust from the customers for the business to truly prosper and creator Ann Nolan understood this well. She used social media to engage her market, particularly women, and through social networking tools, she has been able to “create a base of useful shared content for parents as they work through a significant choice.”

3. Enhance Me. As a specialized portrait company, Enhance Me uses social media to spread the word about their unique services. The people behind the company has embraced social media and utilized it to “promote business and build relationships with bloggers and customers.” As a result, the company is endorsed by customers on sites like verygoodservice.com. Victoria Dixon of Embrace Me shares this tip for going social. “Focus on your goals, platform selection and time commitments.”
