Social Media Update: Facebook Still A Top Choice For Marketers

Despite the arrival of a formidable social media contender, a new survey conducted among marketing professionals revealed that Facebook is still the top choice for marketers. However, the research also revealed that marketing professionals are eyeing new social media platforms where they can run their ads.

In a BizReport article by Helen Leggatt, the survey conducted at the recent Pivot Conference showed that while Facebook and Twitter are still the go-to sites for social media marketing, a lot of interest has been seen towards other social networking sites as LinkedIn, YouTube and Foursquare. Foursquare is “a location-based social networking website based on hardware for mobile devices.”

According to the article, almost 93% of the respondents had already included Facebook in their Internet marketing campaigns and another 5% are still planning on doing so in the coming year. The Palo Alto, California-based was also regarded as “offering the best paid advertising programs.” Almost 80% are already on Twitter while 9% of the surveyed marketing professionals are planning to get in on the tweeting bandwagon. However, less than half (46%) of the marketers thought highly of their ad campaigns on Twitter.

Meanwhile, fewer marketers are currently tapping into YouTube, LinkedIn and Foursquare but the future is bright for these social networking sites as the survey also revealed that 20% of brand managers are planning to use these sites over the coming 12 months–an effort driven by the general success that these marketers have experienced with social media marketing.
