YouTube is rolling out new updates on its analytics reports designed for content creators to see the total number of video views for each content type on their channel.

Previously, the data shown in YouTube Analytics was a combination of counted views for all content types. This update will help content creators understand and compare the performance of different video formats.

Because users can compare the views of their regular videos versus Shorts and live streams, they will now be able to determine which type of content drives the most engagement for their channel.

YouTube Analytics Separate Data for Content Types

Once the update rolls out, users will notice the absence of Reach and Engagement tabs in the YouTube Studio. These tabs will be replaced by a new one called Content.

The Content tab will merge the analytics found in the Reach and Engagement tabs. In this tab, you will be able to check the performance of your different content types.

Once you click on the Content tab, you will see multiple navigation items that will take you to the metrics for individual types of videos.

Here are several buttons to be familiar with:

  • Videos: is a button for your long-form videos
  • Shorts:  is a button to see the analytics of your short-form videos
  • Live: is a button to see the performance of your live stream videos
  • All: The button compares the performance across different types of video formats.

The update will roll out in the following weeks for all content creators on desktop and mobile. It will only apply to channel-level analytics.

Feedback from Content Creators

The new update was designed due to feedback from content creators wanting separate analytics for each video format.

With this update, YouTube will add separate analytics and the ability to compare metrics for their different video formats. No data is removed from the new setting. If data appears to be missing, it is likely moved to a new location.
