Twitter will help corporations and brands increase their Twitter following, but at a price. The social information network already rolled out its advertising product, Promoted Tweets. The tweet is an ad, but still a tweet. And now, advertisers can buy themselves into the “Who to Follow” feature. This news is receiving mixed reviews throughout the social web. Forinternet marketing, Twitter’s new product is a chance to target a greater audience. The social media magnet is being smart with this new product. If users are not interested in tweets about Kim Kardashian, there’s no need for worry, Twitter will only make “Who to Follow” recommendations based on relevance to the user. Such a powerful product would be useful to small businesses; however, online reports indicate that the Twitter advertising option may be too steep for small internet marketing budgets. There is also a possibility that biding for a spot on the “Who to Follow” feature may not make a huge impact on the success of campaigns the way advertisers would like, since most users tend ignore the Twitter feature. Only time will tell if this new product will be successful.
