Since social media has become such an integral part of so many lives, well known companies such as Nike, Intel, and Atari have taken notice and begun their own Facebook/Twitter account to engage with consumers. Although such companies are continuing advertising through TV, radio, etc., the most anticipated means is through e-mail marketing campaigns.
Top companies have already begun revitalizing their e-mail marketing campaigns and include links to their Facebook and Twitter. The inclusion of both social media links within e-mails has exponentially increased from 2007 to 2009. This year only leaves room for more growth due to the level of ubiquity and the increasing development for such social media applications.
StrongMail has published an updated report for possible 2010 Marketing Trends. The top three choices for increased spending are e-mail marketing, social media, and search engine optimization (SEO), with 69%, 59% and 42% respectively.
In the first graph, over 40% are planning to integrate both social media and e-mail marketing this year. The second graph shows that over 50% have either already begun or are looking into it.
Those who have already begun their e-mail/social media marketing mix have reported 42% improvement and 35% others report no improvement. Although these statistics may not seem quite pleasing, this is only the beginning and there is still much room for improvement. Asking people to follow or become a fan is just the tip of the iceberg. The real measure for success is the engagement and interaction with the customer. These actions will not only keep them as loyal consumers, but hopefully spread the word to their network of friends to join and follow.
