Let’s face it. Email as a marketing tool is on the brink of extinction.
Perhaps, the last time you’ve heard something big about Email is way back in 1999 when the Y2K issue scared the living bejeezus out of us. Before, Email was the hub for all things viral. More so, it was where we used to spend time for constant communication, photo sharing, etc. Basically, it was a bastion of online presence – be it for professional or for personal use during that time.
And then it went silent…
Now, it pretty much works as a trove of to-do lists, work priorities, office updates, memos, chain letters, SPAM, notifications from Facebook and newsletters from online shopping sites, not counting phone bills, sent pictures from your sister living in the other side of the world, random scam Emails and the likes… Gone are the days of viral “Dancing Baby”.
Then out of nowhere, one FREE and simple newsletter service decided to resurrect the glory days of Email and change the world of Email marketing one quirky newsletter at a time.
What’s the Gist?
Acquired by MailChimp – also a newsletter service platform – TinyLetter is basically has the same functions that of MailChimp with a more “personal” and sociable approach. Moreover, unlike the former, which requires a more advanced newsletter and Email marketing prowess, TinyLetter provides a more user-friendly interface, with easy navigations. It is also highly-customizable using its basic designs to suit every basic newsletter styling needs, making it perfect for Email marketing beginners and start up business that already have substantial online and offline following.
Simplicity is Beauty
Because of its utter simplicity and easy-to-use characteristics, TinyLetter not only caters to business and marketers, but also for bloggers and writers, as well as to everyone who just wants to say something through letters.
The beauty of this service is that it does not limit your number in terms of subscribers, giving you the advantage to extend your network reach. In addition, its “shareability” does not restrict itself from the norms and limitations of Email. Aside from the most common and basic aspect of this service, which is sending newsletters, TinyLetter also taps the elements of being “social” in such way that users can also share and flash their TinyLetter page to their website, link your TinyLetter page using various social media platforms, or directly tweet your letter via Twitter.
No Longer a Throwback
Evaluating the functionalities of this newsletter site, looks like Email marketing in the form of newsletters will see its virtual renaissance within a couple of years more. Granted that newsletters didn’t actually die, but the fact that people had lost its interest and got tired of seeing the usual, close-to-spam looking newsletters from their subscriptions, the core purpose and relevance of this formidable marketing technique has significantly diminished over the course of 5 years.
Perhaps, TinyLetter is still on the shades of being a think piece in terms of feature enhancement. Truth is they don’t have to bother, because what we see here is the simplicity that once lingered on our browsers. It may not be as sophisticated as the ones we usually see in most newsletters – design-wise – but in return, it gives a more spontaneous, straightforward and casual “human” feel without compromising professionalism.
TinyLetter may not also be “the savior” of Newsletters. But thankfully, they spearheaded the idea of resuscitating the near-dead situation of Email as a marketing medium.
And that’s a good start! For now, might as well enjoy the simplicity of this newsletter revival that looks more of a genuine Email message than junk…
