YouTube creators can now use any video from the platform as a background for their Shorts video with the new green screen feature.
Previously, users could use green screens to create Shorts with other short videos on their YouTube channel. But with the new green screen feature expansion, you can now take any video on YouTube and use it as a background for your short video.
Users can overlay footage of themselves on top of a background video with a green screen. There are now more options for users to make creative short videos with the green screen features. YouTube creators usually use it to react and provide commentary on other videos.
Green Screen Features in YouTube Shorts
YouTube announces that the Green Screen is the latest way YouTube Creators can remix with Shorts. With Green Screen, any user can utilize any eligible YouTube video or Short as the background for an original Short video.
For YouTube creators to use Green Screen, navigate to the specific video, you want to use. Then select create and choose Green Screen on the menu options. You can also press the three-dot menu in the Shorts player, then select Green Screen.
Keep in mind that the maximum length of YouTube shorts you can create is 60 seconds. You can also keep the original YouTube video sound on or off.

YouTube creators will also get full credit for their original video when their video content is used by others as a remix into a Short. This creates a new opportunity for YouTube creators to expand their audience.
The only content that can’t be sampled is music videos and other videos with visual claims.
YouTube creators who don’t want their video content used in Shorts can opt-out via setting it in YouTube Studio.
The expansion of Green Screen features is gradually rolling out on the iOS YouTube app. It will also be available to everyone using Android phones in the coming months.
