Even if you have the best Internet marketing company working with you, it would still be hard to “predict” the next big social media movement.
Consider this one.
According to a blog post from the Marketing Pilgrim, there are reports that Facebook (yes, Facebook, that Palo Alto, California-based social media giant) is tapping into the search domain in a bid to take advantage of a tried and tested ad model, and that they are even working with former Google engineers to accomplish this monumental task.
Wow.
The post added that the goal is to better filter content from site users. The post also noted that this should be an interesting Internet marketing development considering that “there has been little success from any Internet giant to successfully create a dominant presence outside of their core competency unless it is a completely new area.” The author goes on to cite the core competencies of each site: Apple for hardware and content distribution systems, Facebook for social networking, Twitter for real time news discover and Google for search.
Hmm. Sounds like a challenge for Facebook.
But then again, look at Google+. If Google can try and explore its social media options, why can’t Facebook do so and try its hand on search?
Well, for starters, it would be quite limited given that the search effort would be for Facebook data only. The post notes that even Google cannot claim that it has every page on the Internet indexed. Second, Facebook has a search relationship with Bing. So that’s a tricky ground to tread right there.
For now, it’s all part of a possible social media spectacle that we’ll all have to wait for and see.
How are you feeling about this?
