Dunkin’ Donuts is at it again. Less than a year ago, the popular donut company made big headlines with their “Create Dunkin’s Next Donut” contest. Now, they’re using social media in a somewhat different fashion. Dunkin’ Donuts is looking to find their number one ultimate fan. Using Facebook as their medium, Dunkin’ Donuts is looking for the best video from a fan, not to exceed 60 seconds, telling Dunkin’ Donuts why that person deserves the prestigious title of biggest fan. Also a trip to Costa Rica and 5 years of free coffee, the reward for being the biggest fan, doesn’t sound too bad.
This event makes big news today specifically because today is National Coffee Day. National Coffee Day is a recognized in the United States on September 29th, and many coffee chains are celebrating it in different ways. Some have offered coupons for a free coffee on Facebook and Twitter. Dunkin’ Donuts themselves offer a free cup of coffee, and although it might not get as much news as the Ultimate Dunkin’ Donuts Fan Contest, a portion of their sales today go to the Special Olympics. This is just one more way to make social media work for a business, whether it be coffee or anything else.
