The iPhone made history with its extensive use of available applications to increase usability and functionality of the phone, and the iPad is certainly following suit. Picksie, a new app for the iPad, helps users find new local places for food and for fun. If you’re bored, and you just can’t seem to figure out what to do, or if you know what you want to do but aren’t sure where to go, Picksie attempts to determine a place or activity that you would like and gives you the pertinent information. According to Picksie founder and CEO Ajay Mohan, “there were several Web and mobile applications or search engines that provided information about events or places of interest if you already knew what you wanted…the problem was for the people who didn’t know what they wanted.”
The fun thing about Picksie is that it takes into account your geographic location, tastes, preferences, local weather, time of day, and day of the week in order to better determine something that you, the user, would like. In other words if it is raining outside, Picksie will only recommend a venue with indoor seating. It’s not quite Facebook or Twitter, but Picksie is revolutionizing social media in its own way. By suggesting users events and restaurants based on tastes and preferences, theoretically it can be used to bring people together with similar preferences as well. Just remember that if you’re bored and you don’t know what to do, now there’s an app for that.
