How Excellent Product Photos Can Improve E-Commerce Designs
E-commerce basically means doing business online. For consumers, the absence of the ability to feel, touch, hold, smell, and probably even taste the products equates to simply not buying the product. This can be offset with brilliant product photos, however. Product photography might as well be the single most important design aspect of any e-commerce website. Yes, any product can look good in a photo but to be able to make the product go beyond the photo is another thing. Clients should be able to see the product as if it’s right in front of their eyes. The better product photos, the more confident customers will feel purchasing from you. This also raises conversion rate high up in the roof.
Super-clear photos are a necessity for e-commerce designs. This compensates for any customer’s inability to feel the product you are selling. With a lightbox effect, close-ups will look clearer and well-shot.
Show products from multiple angles and perspectives. With this feature, make sure that the product does not clutter the website or make images feel redundant. This gives consumers more detail on the product you are trying to sell on your e-commerce website – showing sides that normally wouldn’t be seen on a single-angle photo.
Make use of selective coloring to direct attention to the e-commerce products. It also helps the e-commerce website achieve a minimalist feel – simplicity usually catches the attention of your consumers. Because selective coloring emphasizes the products rather than other distracting elements of your webpage, it produces a higher conversion rate for your e-commerce business.
Jewelry websites have a distinct means of doing e-commerce. Sharp and vivid images of gemstones and sparkling crystals are deeply contrasted with the neutral black, white, and gray color scheme. Avoid overpowering other design elements to ensure that the eyes of your consumers are focused on the product itself.
Using models to pose with products is a common e-commerce and advertising strategy. For non-clothing items, however, such as wallets, wristwatches, or jewelry, wonderful high resolution photos of products in various aspects of shots and zooms are a great way to emphasize the products’ craftsmanship and quality.
There are 4 simple steps to do excellent product photography:
1. Prepare your product. Inspect the product for tears, stains, chips, or any damage that might show up on the photo. While the easiest products to shoot are solid objects like plastic cups or LED signs, textiles, jewelry, and other items that can bend and wrinkle are much harder to photograph and thus takes more time to set up and prepare.
2. Lighting is very crucial in photography. An EZcube light tent with two small 30-watt bulbs on either side are all you need for a digital camera. Larger items will require two 60-watt soft boxes. A lighting reflector is also important to rid shadows and highlights from your photograph.
3. Set up the camera. The camera need not be a DSLR or the most expensive camera on the market. As long as your camera has a manual focus and shutter and aperture controls, you’re good. Most SLR cameras have these anyway so that wouldn’t be a problem. Do a few test shots once the product and lighting equipment have been arranged. This will help you determine the right exposure for your photo. Once you figure out the shutter speed and aperture settings that bring out the best in your photo, use them again in the future to maintain consistency.
4. Editing is just as crucial as photographing. Despite having the perfect set-up, there are still minor adjustments that need to be done to achieve the best effect for your e-commerce product. Edit the photos and place them in a white background to avoid clashing with other elements. Additionally, with a white background, the photo can be conveniently placed in catalogs and brochures without additional editing required.
Making products “pop-out” in photos is an important aspect of product photography. Stunning images of products can increase e-commerce sales because it makes up for a customer’s inability to physically touch and feel the item. Invest in good photos – not only will it give you more sales but customers will feel that you value your business greatly.
