How much would you donate to see a family member, coworker or friend shave their head in solidarity with children fighting cancer? After just ten years since its humble beginning, the St. Baldrick’s Foundation has become the world’s largest volunteer-driven fundraising program for childhood cancer research. The foundation was started by three reinsurance executives who transformed their St. Patrick’s Day party into a benefit for kids with cancer. Since its start in 2000, events have taken place in over 24 countries and in all 50 US states. Throughout the year, St. Baldrick’s funds are granted to several different childhood cancer research experts throughout the world.
On March 9, 2010, Robert McPherson, an employee at Cybertegic, participated in a St. Baldrick’s Day event at Matt Denny’s Ale House Restaurant in Arcadia, California. He shaved his head in solidarity with children who have cancer. McPherson says, “It’s a small sacrifice to make for such a major cause.”
At Cybertegic, we always support our employees in all their endeavors inside and outside of the company, so after hearing the news, we made a generous donation on McPherson’s behalf. He also received donations from other organizations, including Reynolds Buick Pontiac GMC. McPherson is just one of over 130,000 volunteers who have helped raise over $74 million dollars for children cancer research.
