Social Media and public relations are colliding and both can be successfully implemented for networking if used effectively. There are three major points that to follow in order to use social media marketing sites to your advantage.
One of the first key steps is to be platform agnostic. Platform agnostic means being able to work with any system, regardless if technology shifts to a new platform, and delivering your intended experience without any trouble. Also, please keep in mind that Twitter should be treated as a newsfeed. Although Twitter is great social media and networking, there are still different sources for social media. With that being said, don’t rely on social media sites like Twitter o
r Facebook. Although those are great sources for marketing or networking, it is very possible that some new social media site may rise up and take its place. Don’t get me wrong. Definitely use these sites to help network or market, but don’t solely rely on them.
Secondly, a long term commitment is crucial for staying in social media. As with any successful business, long term commitment is necessary to advance and push through “the dip.” This means outlasting those that are not as serious or committed. Another strategy is to become referential. In other words, try to become the brand/company that people refer to for sources or social media news. Do this by contributing more and contributing valuable resources or feedback.
And finally, the third point is understanding the connection between social media, PR, and search engine optimization (SEO). These three crossroads with each other and it is important for you to find the connection between them to increase visibility as they work off each other. As I mentioned above, becoming the go-to source will help you in your niche. Being actively social, being linked, and providing links can boost rankings and traffic. A keyword glossary can also be helpful when people conduct searches. By doing so, they may associate your brand with those keywords and thus, develop brand association.
These are only three tips that can be used as a guideline but don’t follow these word for word. Use them as a foundation to start from so that you can advance your brand. You may come across other strategies that may be more useful for you.
