So you hired an Internet business consultant. Good for you. Internet marketing is an integral part of marketing today, regardless of whether your business is online or offline. With the growing significance of Internet marketing, many practitioners are quick to call themselves experts and certified Internet business consultants. The truth is, Internet marketing is not an exact science and it can be hard to pinpoint a real expert on the matter.
So, how do you pick out the so-called Internet marketing experts who really know what they are doing? Entrepreneurs-Journey.com’s Bryan Clark has some help to offer. In his article, he cites some Internet marketing techniques that are way past their prime. Read on and see if your supposedly certified Internet business consultant is practicing any of these antiquated online marketing moves.
1. Hard selling. Pitching as though the world will end tomorrow is not exactly how you get a product or service bought. The used car salesman person is overrated. These days, it’s more about building relationships with customers and engaging them to communicate with you.
2. Excessive use of e-mail marketing. Having a customer’s (or potential customer’s) e-mail address is not a license to send junk. Sending e-mails should be done sparingly and only if there is value in your content.
3. Adherence to worn out methods. How does your Internet business consultant feel about article marketing using directories? How about “site flipping”? Clark points out that while these techniques aren’t exactly useless today, there are far improved and more effective ways to market online. As the Internet changes, so should a marketer. Real experts are always learning and researching so that they are always one step ahead of the trend.
4. Use of private label rights (PLR). Clark defines private label rights as “products that are created and then sold with the intent of being re-branded and re-marketed as new product.” Hmm. A genuine Internet business consultant does not need to resort to shady practices to make a sale. Like we said earlier, it’s all about building a relationship and you can’t build one when you knowingly deceive your customers.
