Previously, we discussed the first of the top five SEO don’ts small businesses should avoid, as shared by Business Insider. The first three SEO practices that SMBs should shy away from are targeting the same keywords as their competitors have, participating in link exchanges, and building links that lead only on the website’s homepage. Not only are these practices ineffective, these could also land you on Google’s penalized websites as some SEO experts also consider these unethical and black hat SEO.
This article concludes the two-part series on what SEO strategies SMBs should not include in their search engine optimization campaigns.
4. Indexing useless pages. Just because a website has many subdirectories or pages does not necessarily mean that it gives the visitor a rich SEO experience. Why is this so? Many web designers and companies assume that to become that big brand with a big site means creating shallow content that are not only useless, but duplicated content as well. With Google Panda’s release, many sites have now suffered from creating too many useless pages on their websites.
When it comes to professional content copy writing, the best thing to do is start by researching the targeted keywords that could bring potential sales to the business and then work around these keywords to create quality content. Each page should offer the visitor an informative and entertaining content that he/she will find useful. Not only is this a bad practice, this can actually hurt your site, especially now that Google Panda rewards those with useful content and penalizes those with useless pages.
5. Multiple domains in SEO campaigns. Each event, promotion, or conference do not need a separate domain. SEO efforts need not be separated in multiple domains just to give the impression of a bigger brand or better site. Not only will multiple domains create distraction away from the main goal of your SEO campaign, it can also lead to lower levels of link popularity, which can consequently drive away your focus and your users. To avoid this, simply create a new section or page on the existing site where different SEO efforts can be displayed.
Now that you’ve learned what businesses that take part in SEO campaigns should avoid, be the better company and stay away from these unnecessary practices. When it comes to SEO, listen to the experts. No one knows the SEO industry better than those who have been in the business for years, backed with the experience and qualifications that could help companies earn more revenue in the internet marketing world.
