According to “Socializing Your CEO: From (Un)Social to Social,” 64% of CEOs at the 50 biggest companies in the world do not engage in social media. For the 36% of CEOs that do engage online, most of the activity involves posting a letter or message onto the company website, or updating their Wikipedia profiles.
A few possible reasons for CEOs not going social include worry about overshadowing the company, legal constraints, fear of being misinterpreted, not being convinced of the ROI from online engagement, and having zero comfort with communicating through social media channels. The world is rapidly changing, advancing smartphone technology, creative mobile marketing and growing m-commerce is manufacturing new business opportunities. Social media plays a huge role in business and how businesses connect with the lives of people today. It will only be a matter of time before the percentage of CEOs engaging on Twitter, Facebook, and other social media channels increases.
