Location-based social networks and other location-based services have been immensely popular this past year. As such, it doesn’t come as a surprise that people are getting ready to make the most of these services this holiday season. JiWire, a leading mobile audience media company, recently released their Mobile Audience Insights Report, which included a lot of information about how consumers plan on using location-based services during this year’s holiday season. According to the report, which surveyed 1,200 people, nearly 90% of consumers plan on using location-based services during the holidays. These services include Foursquare, Facebook Places, Google Maps, and many others. Among the most prominent reasons for using location-based services during the holidays are for checking the location of stores (61%), and to see descriptions and reviews of products (36%).
This data is very significant to business owners. 30% consumers are willing to travel over five miles to redeem a mobile coupon, on average. If you are offering promotions through location-based services, keep in mind that it’s important to get your message out past just your storefront. Also keep in mind that 26% of consumers using location-based services this holiday season are doing so for social networking. Get in on the action, and communicate to your customers over these services, especially Foursquare and Facebook places. Social networks are the perfect place to introduce people to your brand, or announce deals and promotions that you’re offering.
