Just having a Facebook page doesn’t mean your company is utilizing social media marketing to its full potential. To be really connected, you have to reach out to your fans on Facebook, and the best way to find your fans is to have them “like” your brand on Facebook. A recent study by shows marketers how and why consumers “like” certain brands on Facebook. In fact, 43% of all Facebook users surveyed are fans of at least one brand on Facebook. This is huge from a marketing perspective. More fans means you can get your messages (i.e. promotions, coupons, events, etc.) out to consumers quicker, easier and more efficiently. Indeed, 34% of Facebook users “like” a brand in order to receive more information about the activities of that company, and over 30% do so to get updated on future products or company sales. And because Facebook, Twitter, and other social media sites thrive on word of mouth, getting a message out to fans means they can spread your information quicker and cheaper than any other means.
Not only will getting Facebook fans help increase brand awareness, but also brand loyalty. About 39% of Facebook users said they become fans of brands in order to show their support of the company to their friends and other Facebook users. That loyalty is what keeps fans coming to you and not your competitors, and it can be found on Facebook. Also, 17% of Facebook users said they were more likely to purchase a company’s product after “liking” that company on Facebook. Although it may not be as important as brand loyalty, that revenue can be traced directly back to Facebook. Although only 23% of respondents said they follow brands on Twitter for the same reasons, Twitter and other social media sites aside from Facebook still have a large following, and are extremely cost effective means of social media marketing.
