Have you just received an email from Google Ads which says that one of your ads has been disapproved? Before panicking, know that it is normal to experience a disapproved ad every now and then. But that doesn’t mean that you should just let it be. Once you’ve received a notification, it is crucial that you check the ads, identify the problem, and resubmit it for review.
To help with this process, we will be featuring a guide to help you figure out why your ad has been disapproved and what you can do to fix it.
How to check if you have a disapproved ad
Aside from an email, you can see on the Google Ads platform if your ads have been disapproved. Look for the “Status” column to check whether your ad has been “Disapproved” or “Eligible (limited),” which means that your ads are not running.
To check why the ads have been disapproved, simply hover the cursor over the status of your ad. The detail usually includes the policy violation impacting your ad.
What are Google Ads policies?
Google Ads policies are designed to ensure that each user will have a safe and positive experience. For this to happen, Google Ads prohibits some content that can harm users and their overall advertising ecosystem. They use a combination of automated and human evaluation. This ensures that each ad on Google and its network complies with these policies.
Google Ads policies currently cover four broad areas:
1 – Prohibited content – These ads may contain content that one can’t advertise on Google Network.
- Counterfeit goods
- Dangerous products or services
- Enabling dishonest behavior
- Inappropriate content
2 – Prohibited practices – An advertiser must not do these things if they wish to advertise on Google Network.
- Abusing the ad network
- Data collection and use
- Misrepresentation
3 – Restricted content and features – These are content that you may advertise on the Google network but have certain restrictions and limitations.
- Default Ads Treatment
- Sexual content
- Alcohol
- Copyrights
- Gambling and games
- Healthcare and medicines
- Political content
- Financial services
- Trademarks
- Legal Requirements
- Other restricted businesses
- Restricted ad formats and features
- Requirements for made for kids content
4 – Editorial and technical – These are quality standards set by Google for your ads, websites, and apps to ensure the experience of their users.
- Editorial
- Destination requirements
- Technical requirements
- Ad format requirements

While for destination requirements, advertisers must review the policy page and work with their webmaster to fix the problem. Once done, they must submit an appeal to Google Ads.
