There is good news for all those Facebook fanatics who can’t get enough of the sites recently new “Like” button. The popular social media marketing website is taking their popular “thumbs up” feature beyond the walls of Facebook and into some of the most popular locations in cyberspace. It is no secret that that the employees at Facebook are always working hard to stay one step ahead of their competition, and for those that have been on the website lately, you already know that a number of changes have already been made the past couple of weeks. Well, we can add this to the list. In an attempt to increase its presence on the web, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook will be adding its “Like” button to third party websites.
The new feature can already be seen and used on popular sites like Pandora.com, IMDB.com and NYTimes.com. There aren’t too many differences from the way the button already works. When Facebook users press a “Like” button on a third party site, their name and profile picture will show up. Additionally, the update will be featured on their news feed and they will be able to see if any of their friends have also visited and “Liked” the same site. For those of you that make a mistake and accidently “Like” a website that you actually detest, the action can easily be undone by re-clicking the button.
A countless number of companies are looking forward to adding this new Facebook feature to their site because this new form of social media marketing will add traffic their location and give users a new way to rate stories, services and products. In other words, the expansion of the “Like” button is taking word-of-mouth marketing to cyberspace, which is an appropriate forum considering it’s where most people now spend a majority of their time. This Facebook feature will especially be useful to e-commerce businesses because customers’ friends can now give a seal of approval or a recommendation with a simple click of a button.
Facebook continues to revolutionize social media marketing. Zuckerberg predicted that Facebook will serve 1 billion “Like” buttons within 24 hours of their launch. With the website’s astonishing growth and popularity, there is no doubt they will reach their predicted numbers. From Farmville and fan pages to news feeds and “Like” buttons, Facebook is slowly but surely taking over the cyber world in an extraordinary way.
