Here is another idea that will keep your internet marketing service provider up at night.
Pay with a tweet.
In an article for the Marketing Pilgrim, it was explained that the idea came from a company called “Innovative Thunder” who wanted to help promote their own electronic book. Once clicked, you will get a pre-typed Tweet which can be altered. The Tweet mentions the product and a link so others can find out about it too.
Interestingly, this is not a novel concept. The article says that there are bloggers who post giveaways asking for Tweets in return for contest entries. Mitt Romney also used Pay with a Tweet to help spread the word about his published job plan for Kindle.
Okay, don’t get too excited just yet. Before you call your Internet marketing service provider, consider this: the FTC is not too happy about it. Quoting from the article, the FTC guidelines state that “Endorsements must reflect the honest opinions or experiences of the endorser… If you’re offering them something of real value in return for these reviews, though, it’s wise to tell them in advance that they should disclose what they received from you. That way, other consumers can decide how much stock to put in those reviews.”
In short, truth in advertising should always prevail.
Still, this twist to tweeting is a gold mine of marketing opportunities. What can you and your Internet marketing services team do to take advantage?
Well, for starters it reminds you of the many ways you can use social media and other Internet marketing services to promote and sell. This kind of system relies heavily on trust and trust is a fragile currency especially online. But if you want to go for it, using Pay with a Tweet can be an excellent way to harness the collective power of the masses.
