Less than a week ago, Twitter, the widely popular social media giant, started inviting select users to preview the new Twitter Analytics product. Imagine getting all of your Twitter statistics right from the source. And the best part: it’s all free! This is huge news for anyone interested in social media marketing. Twitter Analytics will be useful for providing pertinent data that lets you know the quantity and the quality of who is talking about you on Twitter. Just like with Facebook and all other social media, it’s important to know what people are saying about you on Twitter because you can more easily reach out to potential customers. Also keep in mind that these potential customers are more likely to listen to you over Twitter than they are to pay attention to a traditional advertisement.
Some people have raised question in regard to the price of Twitter’s new service. Is it a bad idea on Twitter’s part, offering this service for free? It is true that many businesses would jump at the chance to use Twitter Analytics, even if it was for a price. Still Twitter is making a smart move by doing this. Twitter is attempting to have the same share in the social media world as Facebook (who already offers an analytics service for free), and Twitter Analytics is a great way to bring users in. Not only that, but there’s no reason why Twitter can’t later offer a charged service in the future with additional features for corporate users. Plus, Twitter has to factor in the extra service that they would have to offer if businesses were paying for the service. In any case, it seems very clear that Twitter knows what they’re doing, and that offering Twitter Analytics for free now is going to mean more market share, and consequently more revenue, for them in the future.
