As social media becomes more and more prevalent, it becomes important to look toward the growing role that social media plays internationally. Many international communities have embraced social media, especially popular social networks like Facebook and Twitter. It’s also important to realize, from a marketing perspective, that all of this communication going on everywhere, new markets are forming all over the world. Twitter, the popular social media network, has been increasing its international support over time, and they recently announced that they are stepping up their international efforts. Twitter really started expanding internationally in late 2009 when it became available in Spanish, French, Italian, and German. Since then Twitter has announced that less than half of all Twitter activity is in English.
Twitter now continues their international effort by extending Twitter Trends, the locally focused hot list of what’s trendy, to 13 more countries and 6 more cities worldwide. If Twitter was popular on the international scene before, it was nothing to what they will become. There’s plenty of networking going on in the international community, and if you own a business that can mean a ton of more customers from around the world. Now that Twitter’s outfitted with Google Translate, you can see what people are saying, regardless of what language it was originally posted in.
