When social media giant Twitter first started micro-blogging, the only way to send tweets was via text message. For this reason, all tweets are at most 140 characters because it all must fit into a single text message. Now, Twitter has returned to the mobile phone and added more features that enable users to use SMS text.
Within the United States, anyone can receive tweets on their mobile phones without joining Twitter. This is the best way for anyone to follow someone without going through the hassle of joining yet another social media site. To use the mobile feature, you can text a dedicated number to follow people, or click on a mobile icon to receive tweets on your mobile phone. You will receive a text message immediately after someone you follow sends out a tweet. If the tweets get too overwhelming, you can simply send an “off” text back to Twitter to halt the tweets, and just as easily send an “on” text message to Twitter to start receiving tweets again.
In other news, Twitter is also launching an official widget to add to your websites and blogs for sharing. The official widget can be available as soon as the end of this week.
